Anti-Wrinkle Treatment FAQs

Is the treatment safe?

Yes. When performed by experienced professionals, anti-wrinkle treatment is safe and has a long history of clinical use.

How long do the results last?

Typically, results last 3 to 4 months. With regular treatments, muscles can be trained to stay relaxed longer, extending the results.

Does it hurt?

Most patients feel only minor discomfort—similar to a small pinprick. The procedure is quick and well tolerated.

Will I look frozen or unnatural?

Not at all. We take a conservative approach that prioritizes natural, balanced outcomes, ensuring your facial expressions are preserved.

When will I see results?

You’ll begin to notice improvements within 3–5 days, with full results visible in 10–14 days.

Can I go back to work afterward?

Yes. There’s no downtime. You may see slight redness or swelling at the injection sites, but this usually disappears within the hour.

How much does it cost ?

Our pricing is as follows:

Treatment of 1 area: £200
Treatment of 2 areas: £250
Treatment of 3 areas: £300
Each additional area: £85
We offer a consultation for £70, which is fully deductible from the treatment cost should you decide to go ahead—either at the same appointment or on a different day.

Crowns FAQs

When is a crown needed?
A crown is recommended when a tooth is heavily damaged, weakened by decay, fractured, or has undergone root canal treatment. It provides full coverage and protection.
What materials are used for crowns?
Crowns are available in several materials, including porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM), Emax, Zirconia, ceramic, resin, and metal. Each material has different benefits in terms of strength and appearance.
Will my crown look natural?
Yes. Modern crowns are designed to closely match the shape and colour of your natural teeth, especially ceramic, Emax, and Zirconia crowns.
How long does a crown last?
Crowns typically last 10–15 years or longer with good oral hygiene, regular check-ups, and avoiding habits such as teeth grinding.

Dental Fillings FAQs

When do I need a dental filling?
A filling is usually needed when a tooth has decay (a cavity) or minor damage such as a small crack or worn area. Fillings seal the tooth and prevent bacteria from causing further damage.
What types of fillings are available?
At Surrey Dental Practice, we offer white (composite) fillings, glass ionomer fillings, and amalgam fillings. Your dentist will recommend the most suitable option based on the tooth’s location, size of the cavity, and biting forces.
Are white fillings as strong as metal fillings?
Modern composite fillings are very strong and bond directly to the tooth. They are suitable for most areas of the mouth, although in some high-pressure areas, alternative materials may still be recommended.
How long do fillings last?
Fillings can last many years, but their lifespan depends on the material used, oral hygiene, diet, and bite forces. Regular dental check-ups help monitor them.

Dental Implant Treatment FAQs

What exactly are dental implants?

Implants are forms of titanium fixed into the jawbone, which acts as artificial tooth roots to help hold crowns, bridges or dentures.

Is the Dental Implant Procedure Safe?

Yes, dental implant surgery is considered very safe and has an extremely high success rate (often over 95%).

Are implants painful?

The surgery is often carried out with local anaesthesia and in most cases the patients have little discomfort after the operation.

How does it feel to have a dental implant?

Once healed and restored, a dental implant should feel exactly like a natural tooth. You won’t feel the implant itself; you’ll simply have the sensation of a normal, strong tooth that allows you to eat and speak without worry.

How long do they last?

Dental implants can last for decades or even a lifetime in case one pays regular visits to the dentist to cheque up on the dental implant.

Can anyone get dental implants?

Most of adult with healthy gums and enough bone are ideal candidates. During a consultation, we will assess whether you’re a fit.

Is smoking a concern?

Smoking though can tamper with healing but does not automatically rule you out. We’ll talk about any case-particular risks. How much does dental implant cost? The cost is dependent on how complicated your treatment is. We will give a detailed breakdown during your consulting process.

Do implants require special care?

Not that much additional to your regular oral hygiene! Brush and floss and come to see us for normal care – just like with natural teeth.

Can I go back to work after dental implant surgery?

Many patients return to work the next day, especially if their job is not physically demanding. However, it’s generally recommended to take 1-2 days off to rest and manage any swelling or minor discomfort.

Direct vs Indirect Restorations FAQs

What is the difference between direct and indirect restorations?
Direct restorations, such as fillings, are placed directly into the tooth in one visit. Indirect restorations, such as inlays and crowns, are custom-made outside the mouth and fitted during a separate appointment.
How do I know which type I need?
This depends on how much of the tooth is damaged. Smaller areas are usually treated with direct restorations, while larger or weaker teeth often need indirect restorations for extra strength and longevity.
Are indirect restorations more durable?
Yes, indirect restorations are often stronger and longer-lasting, particularly for teeth that are heavily restored or under significant biting pressure.

Inlays & Onlays FAQs

What is a dental inlay?
An inlay is a custom-made restoration used when a cavity is too large for a filling but does not require a full crown. It fits precisely into the prepared area of the tooth.
What are inlays made from?
Inlays can be made from ceramic, composite, or gold. The choice depends on the size of the restoration, aesthetic requirements, and functional needs.
Are inlays better than fillings?
In some cases, yes. Inlays are stronger than traditional fillings and can restore the natural biting shape of the tooth more accurately, helping improve durability and comfort.
How long do inlays last?

With good oral hygiene and regular dental visits, inlays can last many years and are known for their strength and stability.

What is the difference between an inlay and an onlay?
An inlay fits within the grooves of the tooth, while an onlay covers one or more of the biting cusps. Onlays are used when a tooth needs more protection than an inlay can provide.
Are onlays stronger than fillings?
Yes. Onlays are custom-made as a single solid piece and bonded to the tooth, making them significantly stronger and more durable than traditional fillings.
Why choose an onlay instead of a crown?
Onlays allow more of the natural tooth to be preserved while still providing excellent strength and protection. A crown is usually reserved for teeth that are more severely damaged.
What materials are used for inlays and onlays?
They can be made from ceramic, composite, or gold. Each material has its own benefits in terms of strength, durability, and appearance
How long do inlays and onlays last?
With good oral hygiene and regular dental check-ups, inlays and onlays can last many years, often longer than traditional fillings.
Do inlays and onlays feel natural?
Yes. Once fitted, they are designed to feel comfortable, restore your bite accurately, and function just like a natural tooth.

Orthodontics FAQs

What is Invisalign and how does it work for teeth straightening?

Invisalign is a modern way to straighten teeth using clear, removable aligners instead of metal braces. Each set of aligners gently shifts your teeth into a better position. They’re custom-made for your mouth, so they fit comfortably and are almost invisible when worn.

What can I expect during each stage of Invisalign treatment, from the initial scan to the final results?
It usually starts with a consultation and a 3D scan of your teeth. That scan is used to create a digital plan showing how your smile will move step by step. You’ll then receive a series of aligners and switch to a new set every week or two.
As you go, you may have short review appointments to check progress. At the end, you’ll see your final smile and usually move on to retainers.
What is the process and timeline for getting Invisalign treatment?

The process generally looks like this:

  1. Consultation & 3D scan
  2. Treatment planning and aligner production
  3. Start wearing aligners
  4. Regular check-ins
  5. Finish and move to retainers

Most treatments take about 6 to 18 months, depending on how much movement is needed.

What kind of results can I expect from Invisalign, including before and after examples?
Invisalign can improve crowding, gaps, overbites, underbites, and general alignment. Patients usually notice gradual improvements every few weeks. Before-and-after cases often show straighter teeth, a better bite, and a more confident smile.
How often do I need to wear Invisalign aligners for effective results?
For best results, aligners should be worn 20–22 hours a day, removing them only for eating, drinking anything other than water, and brushing.
What are the benefits of choosing Invisalign over traditional metal braces?

Some people prefer Invisalign because:

  • They’re nearly invisible
  • They’re removable, so eating and cleaning are easier
  • They’re generally more comfortable than brackets and wires
  • Fewer/emergency appointments are usually needed

Shape

Do I need to wear retainers after completing Invisalign treatment?
Yes. Retainers help keep your teeth in their new positions. Without them, teeth can slowly shift back. Most people wear them full-time at first, then just at night.
How often do I need to visit the dentist during Invisalign treatment?
Check-ins are usually every 6–8 weeks, just to make sure everything is moving as planned. Some practices offer virtual check-ins too.
What aftercare is required following Invisalign treatment?

Aftercare mainly involves:

  • Wearing your retainers
  • Regular dental checkups
  • Good oral hygiene
  • Keeping retainers clean and updated when needed
What are the advantages of choosing a provider with advanced Invisalign expertise or recognition?

Aftercare mainly involves:

  • Wearing your retainers
  • Regular dental checkups
  • Good oral hygiene
  • Keeping retainers clean and updated when needed
How do patients rate their experiences with Invisalign treatment and the dental practice?
Most patients report that Invisalign is more comfortable and more convenient than braces, and many feel more confident during treatment since the aligners are clear. Reviews often highlight friendly care, good communication, and great results.
What additional treatments or services are included with Invisalign packages?

Packages will include things like:

  • Digital scan previews
  • Refiners (Additional Aligners if required)
  • Teeth whitening
  • Cosmetic contouring
  • Retainers at the end
  • Aftercare appointments
What support is available for nervous or anxious dental patients during Invisalign treatment?

Some practices offer:

  • Extra time during visits
  • Calming environments (music)
  • Gentle communication and reassurance
  • Virtual check-ins to reduce visit anxiety
What other cosmetic dental services can complement Invisalign treatment?
  • Teeth whitening after alignment
  • Composite bonding to refine tooth shape
  • Veneers or Crowns for a full smile makeover

Old Fillings and Repairs FAQs

Do old fillings need to be replaced?
Over time, fillings can crack, wear down, or leak. If this happens, replacement is often recommended to prevent decay from developing underneath.
Can a filling be repaired instead of replaced?
In some cases, yes. Minor defects can sometimes be repaired, but larger issues usually require replacement for long-term success.
How can I tell if a filling is failing?
Signs may include sensitivity, pain when biting, rough edges, or food getting stuck. However, many failing fillings show no symptoms and are detected during routine check-ups.

PRP Therapy FAQs

Is PRP therapy painful?

Most patients find it comfortable, especially with the application of topical anaesthetic. You may feel minor discomfort during injections, similar to microneedling.

How long does the treatment take?
A session lasts approximately 45–60 minutes, including preparation time.
When will I see results?

Some effects can be noticed within a few weeks, with optimal results visible after 2–3 months. For hair restoration, this may take slightly longer.

Can PRP be combined with other treatments?

Yes! We often recommend combining PRP with microneedling for improved skin resurfacing and collagen stimulation. This will be discussed during your consultation

What areas can be treated with PRP?

PRP can be used for facial rejuvenation, the under-eye area, scalp (for hair loss), and areas with acne scarring or poor skin texture.

Restorative Dentistry FAQs

What is restorative dentistry?

Restorative dentistry focuses on repairing damaged or decayed teeth to restore their strength, function, and appearance. This includes treatments such as fillings, inlays, crowns, and other restorations designed to help teeth work and look natural again.

Why might I need restorative treatment?
You may need restorative treatment if a tooth has been affected by decay, fracture, wear, trauma, or a failing old filling. Early treatment helps prevent further damage and more complex procedures later.
Is restorative dentistry only about appearance?
No. While restoring the appearance of your smile is important, restorative treatment also improves chewing, speech, bite stability, and overall oral health.

Root Canal Treatment FAQs

Is root canal treatment painful?

No. Thanks to modern anaesthetic techniques, root canal treatment is no more painful than getting a filling. Most patients report significant pain relief after the procedure.

How much does root canal treatment cost?

Our fees start from £350. Expert root canal treatment cost (with Dr Nadia Tawfiq; MSc in Endodontics) typically ranges between £750–£950.
The total cost of private root canal treatment depends on the tooth and whether a crown is needed. We’ll provide a full quote during your consultation.

How long does the procedure take?

A root canal can usually be completed in 1 visit, lasting around 90 minutes- 3 hours , depending on the complexity and whether with the general dentist or with the specially trained Dr Nadia Tawfiq using the microscope.

Can any tooth be saved with a root canal?

While many teeth can be preserved, in some advanced cases extraction might be the better option. We always aim to save the tooth wherever clinically possible.

What are signs I might need a root canal?

Watch for pain when chewing, sensitivity to hot or cold, swelling, and tooth discolouration. If you notice any of these, contact our dental practice in Surrey immediately.

Will I need a crown after the treatment?

Often yes—especially for back teeth or those with significant structure lost. A crown adds strength and protection to the treated tooth.

Can gum disease be reversed?
Yes—early-stage gum disease (gingivitis) can be reversed with professional care and improved hygiene habits at home.
Is the treatment uncomfortable?

You may experience mild sensitivity during or after deep cleaning, but we use gentle techniques to keep you as comfortable as possible. Local anaesthesia (gel or Injection) is available on request to ensure you feel completely at ease during the procedure.

Will I need surgery?

In most cases, no. Our non-surgical treatments, including PerioChip® and deep cleaning, are effective for managing early to moderate gum disease. If you require more advanced surgical treatment, we can arrange this in-house or refer you to a periodontal specialist.

Teeth Whitening Treatment FAQs

Is teeth whitening safe?

Yes—when overseen by a qualified dentist, it is entirely safe and doesn’t harm tooth enamel.

How long do results last?

With good hygiene and lifestyle habits, your results can last from several months to a few years.

Will I experience sensitivity?

Some mild sensitivity is possible after Zoom whitening. To help reduce this, we recommend using a desensitising toothpaste—such as Sensodyne, which contains potassium nitrate or fluoride—for 1 to 2 weeks before your treatment. After the session, continue using the toothpaste and follow the aftercare advice, such as avoiding very hot or cold foods and brushing gently with a soft-bristled toothbrush.

Can I whiten crowns or fillings?

Whitening does not affect existing restorations. We can help match or replace them if needed.

What’s the difference between in-practice and at-home options?
