Orthodontics
Abnormal alignment of the teeth and jaws is quite common. Orthodontics specialises in addressing the diagnosis, prevention and correction of facial and dental issues, as well as misaligned bite patterns, known as ‘malocclusion’.
At Surrey Dental Practice, our Orthodontic treatment will help create a healthier-looking mouth, thereby offering our patients a more attractive smile which in turn gives a greater level of self-confidence.
The start of the treatment process involves completing a comprehensive visual examination of the patient’s smile. We offer Inman Aligners and Clear Aligners for patients with simple to moderate crowding problems. A typical treatment lasts three to eight months depending on how much work is required and the severity of the problem. For patients with severe cases of malocclusion, we will advise the patient to see a specialist orthodontist.
Invisalign / Clear Aligners
Clear aligners, or invisible aligners, are a type of orthodontic treatment that corrects crooked or misaligned teeth. They are virtually unnoticeable and are a removable alternative to braces designed around convenience and flexibility. Recent studies have showed that clear aligners are effective in straightening teeth in many cases, but not every one of them. This is owing to the direction of movement needed to shift the teeth.
The difference between regular metal braces and clear aligners is the method taken to reach the final result. Clear aligners are made from plastic which is moulded to fit perfectly over the teeth and they are removable. Whilst metal braces are fixed into position and due to being made from metal, are visible when worn.
Similar to other brace types, you will need to have an initial assessment with your dentist. Once a plan is in place, your provider will fit you for your removable Aligners. Aligner trays are then custom-made for each patient, depending on the teeth misalignment (malocclusion). The treatment will require you to change the aligners every couple of weeks to re-adjust the fit and will take 6 to 12 months to complete. However, it is possible to straighten your teeth in a shorter time frame if you only need small adjustments.
Whatever your reason, whether it is because of oral health or cosmetic concern, Clear Aligners can help improve your confidence and give you a healthier smile without ever leaving your chair. Book in to see your dentist today and discuss what the best brace option is for you.
Inman Aligners
The Inman Aligner is a great alternative to other orthodontic braces and is perfect for adults who have experienced a relapse of tooth movement and want to straighten their teeth without fixed braces. It is a fast, effective method and there is no need for metal wires or long periods of treatment. The Inman Aligner is a removable device that applies pressure to your teeth and guides them into better alignment over time without discomfort. Being a removable appliance enables the patient to take them out whilst eating or to clean them.
Once a treatment plan is in place, then impressions are required so that the lab can produce your custom-made Inman Aligner. There will be an initial fitting of the Aligner where you will be asked to wear the appliance for 16-20 hours a day. Regular checks will be carried out every 2 to 3 weeks to adjust the aligners.
